Missing Middle Housing Tour

“Missing middle” describes housing types that offer multiple units at a modest scale within existing neighborhoods. Think duplexes, triplexes, accessory dwelling units, and small apartment buildings. Historically, it would have been common to see such homes coexist among single-family residences throughout La Crosse.

On this tour, we’ll take a closer look at these types of homes throughout the Weigent-Hogan and Washburn. You’ll see duplexes, small apartment buildings, and multiple detached units on a single lot. What can these neighborhoods tell us about potential solutions to the city’s housing crisis? Come and explore the overlapping histories of housing development, zoning, and neighborhood change.

Please wear comfortable footwear, bring water, and dress appropriately for the weather.
